JANUARY 5 READING…PSALM 8 & GENESIS 9-10 & EPHESIANS 5
The Psalmist proclaims the excellence of the Name of the Lord…the One who sets far above creation. When he considers who God is, it amazes him that God would even consider mankind at all. God has blessed mankind beyond any right we have to be blessed. In Genesis God establishes His covenant with mankind through Noah. This covenant sets man above all other creatures…this requires mankind to be good stewards of the earth. God set into order mankind’s social order, and justice system…God Himself establishes capital punishment. He does so because mankind’s life is precious, and murder is an attack on God Himself. God then sets the rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant with mankind…and a promise not to destroy mankind through flooding the entire earth ever again. Very sad in my mind that in our day, those involved in perversion have hijacked this symbol…but that is the way of sinful man. Ham sins against his father and brings a curse to his descendants. Noah dies, and chapter 10 records for us the growth of line of the sons of Noah.
Ephesians 5 calls us to walk as the children of God. We are to walk in love, just as Christ has loved us…by giving Himself as a sacrifice to God. This love is not the love of the world that is corrupt…it is not fornication, uncleanness, covetousness. Nor is it filthy or foolish talking, or coarse jesting. We are also called to walk in the light…for we once walked in the darkness of this world and our own sin. This is seen by walking circumspectly, not as fools…we are to walk in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. In order to do this, we must be filled (controlled) by the Holy Spirit in all areas of our lives. Paul closes the chapter by teaching about the proper relationship between husband and wife. This relationship is to look like the relationship between Christ and His church.
Please share your thoughts.
