JANUARY 4 READING…GENESIS 7-8 & EPHESIANS 4
Today’s theme is safety in Christ, and renewal. As you have read Genesis 7-8, I want to draw your thoughts to see the ark as a “type” of Christ. Those in the ark were safe from the judgment and wrath of God. The world would have to face the full judgment of God, but those who had received the grace of God would be safe. The earth is destroyed, and every living creature outside the ark would perish. A reminder to us that our sin is always more devastating than we think, and it always affects others and the world we live in. As the water recedes the world has changed…everything is new and clean. Noah worships the Lord and mankind has a new start. Sadly, the hearts of mankind remain the same and it is not long until sin once again reigns in the world.
Ephesians 4 reminds us that we believers have been changed, made new in Christ…we are called to walk in Him. It is only as we walk in Him that we find our safety and security from the power of sin. He has given us the church as a place of safety, and He has gifted us from above to be the people in Him, and for each other that we need to be. This diverse giftedness is meant to bring unity in the body of Christ, as they are used to equip all the saints of God. We are called to put off the old person we were before we came to Christ and to now walk in who we are in Him. We must always be careful to not grieve the Holy Spirit by any ungodly words, thoughts, or deeds…but instead live toward one another as Christ has lived toward us.
Please share your thoughts.
