JANUARY 31, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JANUARY 31 READING…EXODUS 4 & MATTHEW 25

The theme of our reading today could be “readiness”. Are we ready for the Lord to do what He has promised? Moses had a concern that the people would not believe that the Lord had sent him, and that it was time for their deliverance. Before we become too critical of Israel, remember they had been in slavery for 400 years, and had heard of the promise of Lord’s deliverance throughout that whole time. I am sure they had become accustom to the promise to the point of believing that it would never really happen. In our reading in Matthew this is clearly true in the parables that Jesus gave. Only part of the people was ready for His coming…the others had grown accustom to the promise, and were not prepared when the Lord returned. Moses was not only concerned that the people would not listen to him, but he was concerned about his own inadequacies. He had not learned yet that those who God calls, He equips. Our call from God is not based upon our abilities, but upon His power. Moses finally returns to Egypt…he moves the people to becoming spiritually right with God…and God used Aaron to be a voice to the people that they trusted and they would listen to. God was moving them to a place of readiness for him to set them free.

Jesus calls us to readiness when it comes to His coming. Are you ready? Are you actively waiting? Are you looking forward to His return with great anticipation? My brothers and sisters do not become frustrated with what we see as a delay in Christ’s coming. He will come right on time! The Lord is never early, nor is He ever late…He is always right on time, His time. We live in a time of scoffers, even in the church, who no longer believe in the coming of Christ. He is coming and sadly they will be caught off guard, and left behind in this world which they trusted more than the promise of God. Matthew 25 is a call to always be ready…we must be, because at any moment Jesus could return. Do you believe that? Are you ready?

Please share your thoughts.
