JANUARY 25 READING…GENESIS 43-44 & MATTHEW 19
The theme of today’s theme relates to us the impact of selfishness, sin, and pride. The brothers of Joseph are paying the consequences of their sin against Joseph, Jacob, and God. The pain of sin is real, and again, it touches the lives of the innocent not even involved. Benjamin was going to go through a lot concerning the sins of his brothers. Jacob was going to experience great pain because of the sin of his sons. Even Joseph’s soul will be grieved as he works through the restoration process with his brothers. We need to be careful with what we do…we need to understand that our sin can cause great harm. We fool ourselves when we think we can sin, and live in disobedience to God and it not touch other people. We cannot let our selfishness and pride lead us to sin.
In Matthew 19 Jesus speaks of the impact of the sin of broken relationships…especially the marriage relationship. These broken relationships always impact more than the two that are involved. Children are impacted…extended families are impacted…the church is impacted…and even society as a whole is impacted. The Rich Young Ruler thought he could come to Jesus and receive eternal life without setting his pride and selfishness aside. He clearly was not willing to give up anything to know Jesus and eternal life. He like so many today just wanted to add Jesus to the other things in his life. Jesus requires us to humble ourselves, die to self, and follow Him wherever and whenever He goes. The Lord has a wonderful promise for those who are genuinely His followers.
