JANUARY 2 READING…GENESIS 3-4 & EPHESIANS 2
Our theme in today’s reading in the fall of mankind, and the increase sin…but ultimately it’s about God’s plan of redemption. In Genesis 3 we have the temptation of mankind. Both Adam and Eve give into temptation, and fall into sin…by their act of disobedience they brought the universal condemnation of sin to all mankind. You will notice the nature of humanity is clearly seen, as both man and woman attempted to blame others for that which they were guilty of...we are each accountable for our own sin before God. The curse of sin impacts everything…humanity, the animal kingdom, and even the ground. We have recorded for us the births of two of Adam and Eve’s sons…Cain and Abel. Cain became jealous of God’s favor on Abel, and his jealous rage led him to kill his brother…notice how sin always grows worse. Chapter four ends with the birth of Seth, meaning appointed one…this starts the line that will lead to THE appointed One, Messiah Jesus.
Ephesians 2 tells us what we have received by the grace of God through Jesus…God’s appointed One. First and foremost is our salvation, which is totally a work of God in our lives…it comes as His free gift. This is accomplished through Jesus’ sacrifice…His shed blood, His death. We receive in Christ peace…He does not just give peace…He is our peace. For Jesus is our Cornerstone…He is our Foundation. Only that which is built upon Him, and inline with Him, will stand for eternity. All others things will crumble because their foundation is weak and unstable.
