FEBRUARY 8 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 11:10-15

Satan is not against religion, in fact he is all for it. It's within the realm of religion that he does his best work. His mission is to destroy the things of God. When I think of Satan's strategy I cannot help but think of C.S. Lewis and the "Screwtape Letters." Basically, since Satan could not destroy the church from the outside, he would join the church and do his destructive work from the inside. Satan is at work in every Bible-believing church. It is his desire to do as much destruction as possible. He works as the polar opposite of Christ. When Christ calls for love, Satan calls for hate. When Christ calls for unity, Satan calls for division...when Christ calls us to esteem others more highly than ourselves, Satan calls for esteeming oneself. When Christ calls us to the pure milk of the Word of God, Satan draws us to the latest "Christian" self-help book. Satan is feverishly at work, knowing that his time for destruction will soon come to an end.

Satan has his "ministers of light"... those who stand in the pulpits of churches every week feeding people the doctrines of hell. They are very subtle; adding just enough Bible to make it sound like their message is legitimate. They intentionally lead people astray and offer them a "gospel" that cannot save. Satan builds personalities that are bigger than life. That way people become so overwhelmed by the personality that they don't care what the message contains. Counterfeiters make their fake money to look as much like the real thing as possible...after all if it looked like Monopoly money who would be fooled? Satan is the great counterfeiter...he stays close to the genuine in order to deceive as many as possible. The best way to know if something is false is to know what is true. Our greatest defense against the great deceiver is to know the Word of God.
