FEBRUARY 7 READING…EXODUS 16-18 & 1 PETER 1
The theme of today’s reading is the preservation of God. That is that God is active in the lives of His people to preserve a people unto Himself. His preservation is God’s presence and His hand being involved in the life of His people. In Exodus we see God preserving His people from hunger, thirst, defeat from their enemies, and from chaos and anarchy. Our God is not the god of the Deist. God did not just wind up the “clock of creation” and take His hands off. God is a “hands on” God…intimately involved in the lives of His people. He is actively preserving His people…in the Old Testament Israel, and in the New Testament Church.
Peter begins his epistle with the promise of God’s preservation with hope for the future. The Lord is there, active in the lives of His people as they walk through trials. We are called to trust God completely, and to surrender our lives to Him, that we might be a holy people. As God has loved us, we are instructed to love one another. Finally, Peter reminds us that just as the Lord preserves His people, He has also preserved His Word for His people.
