FEBRUARY 28 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: PSALM 37:34-40

We have a great and loving God who is always at work in us and around performing His good work in our lives. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign. Let me share with you what that means. It means He answers to no one, no one sits above Him. What it does not mean is that everything that happens is because He makes it happen. God will not do anything that is against His eternal character or nature. He does not do evil...He does not temp with evil, nor is He tempted by evil. He is the very essence of love, holiness and righteousness. We cannot charge God with the responsibility of the evil that we humans do...it is a result of our rebellion. God is not responsible for the ugliness, the hatred, the bigotry, the lying, the murder, the ungodly lifestyles...He is not responsible for death and sickness...nor is He responsible for broken marriages and destroyed families...we humans are.

So, since God is not responsible, does that mean He doesn't care? Quite the opposite...He is all caring and all loving. He proved that in sending His one and only Son to die on the cross for our sin. God's providence is at work all around us. He is continually at work in ways that are not seen with the human eye. Our all-knowing God has placed us each in the most beneficial position to respond to Him...I can't explain how this fully works, but I believe it. God is on mission to reach fallen humanity with His love and salvation. There are far too many unexplained things in our lives that speak to the presence and power of God, for us to dismiss His providential hand. Here's what we can know...in the midst of the ugliness, hurt and rebellion against God...He is at work revealing Himself, His love and His salvation to us. We must be careful that we do not besmirch the Name of God by attributing to Him, that for which we are responsible.

Please share your thoughts.
