FEBRUARY 24 READING…LEVITICUS 12-13 & 2 CORINTHIANS 12
Personal cleanliness is important for the people of Israel in order that disease did not spread among the whole community. The Lord gave Moses instructions for the cleansing that was needed after childbirth. He then gave them instructions concerning skin diseases…particularly leprosy. There was a need during the time of cleansing and healing to separate those who were unclean and infectious from the rest of the population. This was not done to shame these individuals, but to protect others. In a real way leprosy is a picture of the infectious nature of sin that is not cleansed from one’s life. Left unchecked and not confessed, and repented of, sin always spreads…it always grows. We are told to make sure our lives are clean before God in Christ Jesus.
In 2 Corinthians 12 Paul shares with us the vision the Lord gave him of heaven. This lofty experience could have caused Paul to get the “big head”…so Paul was given a thorn in the flesh, that he asked the Lord three times to remove. The Lord told him that His grace was sufficient for Paul. Paul trusted the Lord, and served Him, with the strength the Lord provided. Paul love the church at Corinth, and he wanted them to not only receive the cleansing of the Lord that comes with salvation…he also wanted them to continue to walk in that cleansing. May we also walk in the cleansing the Lord has brought us when He saved our souls.
