FEBRUARY 22 READING…MARK 11
If you knew you were heading to certain death would you continue to head toward it? Jesus said earlier in His ministry that the reason He came was to give His life as a ransom for lost people. He even rebuked Peter when he said that he would not let that happen to Jesus. When Jesus came into the city of Jerusalem on Palm Sunday they greeted Him like they would a conquering king. What they could not know was that Jesus was heading toward the Calvary where indeed He would conquer sin and its punishment by dying on the cross. It was not long after Jesus’ celebrated entry into Jerusalem that the tide of public opinion would change as they began to see what He was really about. Jesus cleanses the Temple declaring that God’s house was to be a place of pray…not a marketplace for thieves and profit. Jesus was confronted by the religious leaders who questioned His authority. They continued to blaspheme by declaring that Jesus did what He did by the power of Satan. Ironically, it was what they called “blasphemy” that they condemned Jesus to death for. Those who were guilty falsely accused the One who was innocent of the very things they were guilty of. Does that not sound like today?
