FEBRUARY 19 DEVOTION BIBLE READING:  PSALM 46

Life can get crazy sometimes...and we can get crazy busy trying to fix it if we are not careful. In the midst of all of life's happenings we need to slow down, be still and recognize that God is still God. Too often we think that we have to help God make everything right...or in some cases tell Him how He needs to make things right. The truth is He doesn't really need our help. He is able. I believe many times we miss what God is doing, because we are so busy doing. To be able to rest in the Lord in the midst of all that is happening is true peace. We learn how to do this by doing it...in other words we need to intentionally be spending time each day just being quiet before the Lord and listening to Him. It is hard to do that when things start to happen, if we have not practiced it already each day.

We need to remember that the Lord is the God of eternity. We see so little and are restricted from a lot of information we need to make decisions as things happen...this is not so of God. He lacks no information and He is not restricted by being limited in His ability to do what needs to be done. We struggle with this because somehow we have convinced ourselves that the Lord is lacking and needs our input of knowledge and abilities. The Psalmist reminds us to, "Be still and know He is God." This speaks of trusting Him to be who He eternally is...trusting Him to know what is needed to be known...trusting Him to be able to do what needs to be done. This is hard for we humans, because we do think we know what is best and the best way to do what needs to be done. Today and every day, the Lord calls us to trust Him...to rest in Him...to spend time with Him...to be still before Him and the world and know that He is God!
