FEBRUARY 16 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11

Because of its connotation by some religious organizations we have the misconception that only special people, who have done extraordinary things and who have been declared so by the church, are saints. The biblical reality is that every born-again believer in Christ Jesus is a saint of God. This standing is not conferred by a church, but by the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation. It is who He has made you. Being a saint does not make you sinless, it makes you blameless. We have this strange idea that being a saint is only reserved for a few very special people in the church, not for the normal everyday believer. This is so foreign to biblical Christianity and has its roots in a church tradition that has no legitimate biblical basis.

As a saint of God, we have been set apart from the world. We have been and are in the process of being sanctified by God. We no longer belong to ourselves; for we have been bought with a price. We now belong to the Lord. He is continually sanctifying us that is, setting us apart and making us ready for His purpose. We are His vessels, we must be clean...we must be prepared by His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does this work in us and makes us the saints of God. No church or no one can give you that title or position as a saint and no one can take it away. We have been brought into the family of God and we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Jesus. We are His saints...it is His work in us that makes this so and we are called to walk as His sanctified people.
