FEBRUARY 10 READING…EXODUS 23-24 & 1 PETER 4
We exist for the glory of God…so it should stand to reason that all that we do should be for the glory of God. I will take it one step further…all that God does is for His glory. And that is a great thing for us, because our very existence, and our work, is all for the glory of God! In Exodus it says, “…the sight of the glory of God was like a consuming fire”. Fire consumes everything in its path. God’s fire touches all people one way or another. His fire either purifies us or destroys us. The glory of God is not a casual thing…we must be careful that we don’t provoke the Lord by treating His glory with either contempt, or as something common. Our God is a God of justice, and He requires that His people live within His covenant, reflecting His glory through their actions.
In 1 Peter the theme of the glory of God continues. He calls us to serve for the Glory of God. Serving for self is not serving the Lord…and the Lord will not share His glory with anyone. Serving for the glory of God is seen in our fervent love for one another…being hospitable towards each other…and sharing the giftedness that comes from God with all people. When suffering comes we are called to suffer for God’s glory. Suffering at the hands of this godless world for following the Lord should not seem like a strange thing to us. There will be trials…since they rejected Jesus, you can be sure that when we follow Him, they will reject us. But be sure that we do all things for His glory, so we don’t suffer for our own wrong doing…or attempting to be a martyr. We glorify God when we suffer by committing our souls to Him, for He is the only faithful One.
Please share your thoughts.
