DECEMBER 8 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 1:3-6

One of the great truths of our Christian faith is that when Christ saved us He changed us completely. I have had people tell me, "I don't feel any change." But I tell them there are changes regardless of how we feel. Our whole position and identity has changed in Christ.

Our position changed in many ways. We were lost, now we are saved. We stood guilty of sin, now we have been declared forgiven. We were estranged from God, now we are reconciled to Him. We were condemned, now we are redeemed. Our righteousness was as filthy rags, now we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We were strangers to God, now we are His own dear children. We were headed to hell, now we are citizens of heaven. We were dead in our trespasses and sins, now we are made alive in Christ. We had no relationship with God, now we walk with Him and He lives in us. When Christ saved us He changed us in so many ways. We have been given a new position.

The Lord also changed our identity. Being part of the redeemed church all the offices of the Old Testament are now part of who we have been made in Jesus. You are a prophet before the Lord and like the Old Testament Prophet you are now able to hear directly from the Lord. Your teacher and guide is the Holy Spirit. He lives in you to bring you the truth of God. You are a priest of God. Jesus removed the need for a man to stand in between us and God and go to God on our behalf. Like the Old Testament priest you now can go directly to God, you can offer prayers, you can bring offerings. You are a king, in that now you are privileged to be part of the royal family and Christ has given you His Word, His authority, His commission to rule with Him. You see, in Jesus, we have changed mightily. Our position has completely changed and our identity has been changed. When Jesus saves a person, He never leaves them the way they were. When Jesus saves us He gives us everything and so much more!
