DECEMBER 6 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ACTS 4:32-37
The Scripture tells us that the things of this world are all temporal in nature and that we must be careful not to put our trust in things, but to put our trust in God. Most things are actually amoral...meaning in themselves they are neither good or bad. What makes them bad is how we look at them and what place we give them in our lives. Even things that we see as a great blessing, put before the Lord, turn into idols and result in sin. It is surely true that we have a gracious God who continually pours out blessings in our lives, but those blessings are not for us to hoard, or to brag about, or certainly not to be made into idols. God blesses us to be a blessing. When things become more important than people, we are headed down the wrong path. When things become more important than God, we sin.
Keeping a proper perspective when it comes to material things is crucial for we followers of Christ. The material things in this life are gifts from God to be used to touch eternity. Even the things we need to sustain life are there to give us the nourishment that we need to live and serve the Lord and others. Every material thing you have in this world needs to be seen as a stewardship, meaning it belongs to God and He is entrusting you with its proper use. Nothing material of this world will ever leave this world. When we leave for heaven, everything else will remain here. Besides yourself, the only thing you will be able to take to heaven with you are those precious souls that you faithfully share the Gospel of Christ, who themselves put their eternal trust in Him. The material things of this world are here today and gone tomorrow. Don't hang on to them too tightly; they will lead to your demise.
Please share your thoughts.
