DECEMBER 5 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ROMANS 6:5-11
There are few things in this life you that can always count on. Sometimes people will tell you something, with no intention of ever following through. Sometimes people will tell you something with every intention of following through, but something unexpected happens and they are unable to do what they said. Sometimes people will tell you something and they honestly forget. There are a whole range of reasons why people are not always reliable and cannot always be counted on. This is not true with God...everything He promises, He will do. We can count on Him! Every promise of God is, "Amen in Christ Jesus!" The Bible says it is impossible for God to lie...He can't be mistaken...He won't forget. If He says it, we can count on it!
This is certainly and very importantly true when it comes to what God has promised us in Christ Jesus. We who were once sinners can know that we no longer are seen that way by God, because of what Jesus did for us. The promise of God in Jesus is that all who believe in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. That's what He says...that's what He means...that's what He will do! We can count on God when it comes to our eternal souls. In Christ, He promises the forgiveness of sin and eternal life. We were estranged from God, yet in Christ Jesus God promises to forgive us and accept us as His very own. And because this promise comes from God, we can count on it! He won't change His mind. He didn't lie about it. He is not playing word games with us. He won't forget His promise. God has said it, so it is done! There are not too many things you can really count on in this world, but you can count on God's promises, always. How much can you count on God's promises? To quote that great theologian Buzz Lightyear..."To infinity and beyond!"
