FROM A PASTOR’S HEART…DECEMBER 4
BIBLE READINGS: PROVERBS 8:32-36
Waiting on and resting in the Lord does not mean a passive wait and rest. As we wait upon the Lord we rest in His promise while we are active in what we know He has called us to. Being a follower of Christ means to be involved in what He is involved in. It means to be about the work that He has called us to, the work that He has equipped us for, the work that He Himself is involved in. At each stage of actively following Him, we are to be listening and responsive to His voice and guidance, never getting out ahead of Him and certainly never attempting to do what He has lead us to do in our own strength or by ourselves.
We wait on Him, for He has perfect timing, the perfect plan and the means to perfectly perform in us what needs to be done. We rest in Him trusting that He is all we need and that in relying on Him completely, the work will be done as He desires. Far too often we attempt to go out ahead of the Lord and when we do we find ourselves overwhelmed and in trouble. When we wait for Him and rest in His presence and power, He makes us adequate for the task and keeps us from falling into trouble. It is difficult for us to wait upon the Lord and truly rest in Him, but it is in this active waiting and resting that we get to be a part of His eternal work.
