FROM A PASTOR’S HEART…DECEMBER 3
BIBLE READINGS: MATTHEW 20:20-28
Do you aspire to greatness? Once again the economy of heaven differs completely from the economy of this world. We know that while the world says we need to be strong to accomplish anything of significance that the Scripture teaches, that it is in our weakness that Christ's strength is revealed and works through us. The world says that if you want to be great you must lord over people...you must use people...you must demand your rightful place of prominence and authority...you must make people respect you. In the world's approach to greatness, people are an end to a means. They only exist to advance your greatness and make you look good. The world even rewards this kind of behavior, for if we are not careful we set these people up as idols, as someone to emulate.
In heaven's economy you are told that if you want to be great you must be the servant of all. To be sure, this is a radical approach that most in this world would just laugh at. God said it is the one who ministers to others, the one who serves others that will be great in the kingdom. Even in Christendom, if we are not careful, we exalt personalities that we have already determined must be great in the kingdom of God. We need to be careful with this because we don't know. We don't know if that person who gives their life unselfishly and is an unknown, will not be the true great one. How about the shut-in who continually prays for the work of the Lord and for others? How about the quiet one, who never draws attention to themselves, yet constantly is ministering to the souls of others? You see, our goal is really not about trying to achieve greatness and notoriety in the kingdom of God. Our goal is to minister in the lives of the precious souls that the Lord brings into our lives, genuinely caring for them, earnestly serving them and we leave the question of greatness to the Lord! Go out there today and love and serve them like Jesus!
