DECEMBER 27 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PSALM 25

The intention of our lives ought to be that we live to be a blessing to others. It is not always possible to know what everyone around us needs in every situation, but we can always be a blessing to others by obeying God. It has long been my belief that in our communities we do not need to take surveys to see what people would like the church to be...but that we need to be on our knees and asking God to make us into the church He desires. God knows better than we do what our community needs and He knows better than the community what His church needs to be. I never quite got the biblical reasoning of why the redeemed church would ask the lost world what the church should be, rather than asking the Lord of the church.

We exist to be a blessing...that blessing comes as we obey the Lord. When we do what He tells us, how He tells us, when He tells us and to whom He tells us...blessings are the result. He has called us to be His light in this world...but some don't like light. Be the light anyway. He has commanded us to be the salt on this earth...but some don't like salt. Be the salt anyway. He has called us to walk in His precepts and truth...but some will hate and reject us for doing so. Walk in them anyway. He has called us to put no others before Him...but some will disdain and ridicule us for this. Put Christ first anyway. The only way we can be a real blessing to those around us, is in being obedient to our Lord. We exist to follow Him. We follow Him because we love Him. We become the blessing He intends us to be as we follow Him in love. Now go obey Him and bless someone's socks off!
