DECEMBER 24 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 1:1-14
I am not sure what your expectations are for the gifts you will receive this Christmas, but I can tell you that if you are a born again Christian you have already received the greatest gift of all time! God, in His great love, chose to send His Son for you...for He chose you from the foundation of the world. This is an incredible gift that God has given. It is the best of gifts. It is the most valuable of gifts. It is the Gift that is given from the heart of Almighty God, who loves you enormously. This gift is His Son and in this wonderful Gift we have forgiveness of sin. We have eternal life...we have the Holy Spirit who indwells us and we have been made the very children of God. What a wonderful gift...and if you are saved you have received this wonderful, irrevocable gift that lasts forever.
If you find yourself this Christmas Eve without the full knowledge and assurance of your salvation, you need to know that God freely offers this gift to you. It is not difficult to understand what God is doing in providing a gift for you. In our homes at Christmas most of us have a tree. Under that tree there are presents. If you look under your tree, you are likely to find a package there with your name on it. That gift was given to you because someone loved you...but as long as that present remains under the tree, it is potentially yours. When you take that gift and tear the wrapping paper off and receive what's inside, the gift becomes literally yours. God offers you the free gift of salvation for your sins, that you might have eternal life. Jesus came to die for your sins, He is the ransom payment and He is God's gift to you...potentially. He literally becomes yours when you respond to the call of the Holy Spirit and receive God's gift as your own. By faith you trust in Jesus for who He is and for what he has done for you. It is my prayer that if you have never received God's wonderful gift in His Son Jesus...that this Christmas you will! I am praying that this will be the greatest Christmas ever, as everyone who reads this will know the reality of greatest gift of all...JESUS!
Please share your thoughts.
