DECEMBER 20 READING…REVELATION 14
Chapter 14 opens with the 144,000 that were called and sealed by God in chapter 7. These have God’s Name on their foreheads. They appear to be in heaven with Jesus at this point…the Mount Zion in this passage is apparently the great city in heaven. This groups sang a new song that was given exclusively to them. These remained pure while they were on the earth…they faithfully followed the Lord wherever He went…and they are clearly the redeemed of God. Again, they are made up of the 12 tribes of Israel.
The next event that happens is an angel flying through heavens declaring the Gospel to all the world, to every nation. He called mankind to fear God and give Him the glory…for His full judgment has finally come upon all creation. A second angel declares the fall of Babylon…that is the system that rejected God, and said they did not need God. Then a third angel gives a great warning for those who would worship the Antichrist, and to take his mark upon themselves…they will be eternally damned and spend eternity in the lake of fire. John then speaks of the promise of blessing of those who die in Jesus, for their eternity is one of promise of being with the Lord.
The last part of this chapter depicts an angel standing on a cloud with a sickle in his hand. Another angel comes out of the heavenly temple and instructs the first angel to thrust the sickle and reap the harvest from the earth. There are two more angels involved with this harvest. This harvest is a harvest unto judgment. So, sever will this judgment be upon the earth, that John describes the devastation as blood running bridle deep for 200 miles. Incredible devastation!
