FROM A PASTOR’S HEART…DECEMBER 2
BIBLE READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 12:7-10
The Bible's way to get things accomplished is not man's way. We think we need to be strong for the Lord and that it is at that point, that we will see something supernatural happen. The Scripture teaches the exact opposite. It says that, "...in our weakness, His strength is made manifest." Could it be the reason we see so few actual miracles...so few supernatural acts of God in our lives...so few genuine times of revival. Is it that we have learned to do things the world's way, rather than God's way? Somehow we have convinced ourselves that if we don't do it for God, it won't get done. That at salvation we were infused with a onetime power from the Holy Spirit that we were to walk in all the rest of our lives and in our strength accomplish great things for God.
I personally shy away from books, articles and sermons that are designed to tell Christians how they can accomplish great feats for the Lord. These have as their basis the thought that somehow being a great Christian is being strong and accomplishing things for God. This approach is really man-centered rather than God-centered...though it claims to be what genuine Christianity is all about. I love the view of Henry Blackaby, who says that it is not we, who are on mission, but it is God who is on mission and He has privileged us to join Him. He doesn't send us out in our own power, ever! It is by His power that all things are accomplished in the Christian's life...and if they are not done by Him, the day will come when they are burned as the, "wood, hay and stubble.” If the church in our generation really wants to see God do something supernatural...if we want to see revival, then we have to STOP depending on our own insufficient strength, acknowledge our weakness and trust completely in the Lord and the strength of His mighty hand. Sadly, we have created churches where God has become dependent on us humans...rather than being biblical churches, where we are totally and completely dependent on God!
