DECEMBER 14 READING…REVELATION 10
Chapter 10 of Revelation is a short chapter that speaks of a book (scroll) that is given to John by an angel from heaven. This angel is described as a mighty angel coming down out of heaven to John with this book in his hand. This book contains God’s final Word for both the Jewish and Gentile nations…represented by the angel standing on both the land (Israel) and the sea (Gentiles). In other words, this book contains God’s Word for all of mankind. Suddenly, John hears the voice of seven thunders from heaven. As he was about to write what he heard, he is instructed not to do so. Some have asked who these seven thunders are, and what did the say? Nobody knows…this apparently is not part of God’s revelation to us.
John was then told to go take the book from the hand of the angel…then he was told to eat the book. He was told that it would taste sweet in his mouth, but would turn bitter in his stomach. John took the book and ate it…it did taste sweet, but made him sick to his stomach. This book is clearly God’s prophecy to people, nations, tongues, and kings. Prophecy is like this…we love to receive it, but when it begins to come to pass, it is not easy to receive. We have seen this book earlier in the Bible, in Daniel 12:4 Daniel is instructed, “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” The book that Daniel was told to seal up is the book that John is told to share. They are one in the same. What is clear is that Revelation completes and reveals that which Daniel was told not to reveal. It is the completion of God’s prophetic word.
Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
