DECEMBER 13 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PSALM 118:15-29

Christmas is coming! And soon families will gather in their homes around the tree and find a package or two with their name on it. It's there because someone loved you enough to go out and select a gift just for you. You will take that gift and open it and then you will choose how you will treat both the gift and the gift giver. You will receive the gift with joy and be very grateful to the one who gave it to you...or you will receive the gift with disappointment, because it wasn't exactly like what you wanted and be upset at the one who gave it to you. You will involve yourself in the gift and put all your energy into it and enjoy it to its fullest...or you will set it aside and treat it as if you never received it. You will cherish your gift and see it as something very special...or you will cast it to the side and waste it.

Today is God's gift to you and to me! It is a very special gift that God chooses to give us each day that we remain on this planet. This day was created by God with you and me in mind. We are here by God's perfect design and by His providential design. He loves us, so He has given us this day. How shall we treat this day that the Lord has made? It is true that there are days that the events of that day might not be too great...but it is still a day that is a gift from God. The Psalmist said that he would, "Rejoice and be glad in it." Just like me, I am sure there are some things you might have to do today and face today, that you would rather not. But the truth is I get to face them, along with all the wonderful things of today, because our God has given me this wonderful day! What a great gift from a great God! Choose well how you will receive the gift of today. Choose well how you will honor the Giver of this great gift!
