DECEMBER 10 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 1 JOHN 2:1-2

All sin is dangerous...all sin is bad...all sin, left unforgiven will result in eternity in hell. The only hope for all we sinners is Jesus. Man wants to take sin lightly; we have grown accustomed to moving further and further away from God. Today, even in the church, sin is condoned, accepted and in some cases celebrated. Sin is always serious and will always result in our destruction. We tend to want to define sin by the ones we are not involved in. It is so much easier to look at what others are doing that we are not and feel self righteous. While it is true some sins have greater consequences here on earth, any and all sin separates us from God.

The book of James tells us that sin begins in our hearts...that we are led away by temptation. Sin occurs when we give into that temptation. Sin brings death. Sin looks good at the beginning; it may even bring great pleasure, temporarily. Such is sins insidious nature. It offers so much only to lie and destroy us. Far too often we lie to ourselves and want to re-categorize sin...that way we don't have to deal with it in our lives. Sin is always deceptive...always dangerous...always destructive. Only Jesus can bring hope and forgiveness to we sinners all of us! He intentionally came to give Himself as the payment for our sin and to offer the free gift of salvation to anyone who believes in Him. It's really not that difficult to understand. God created us for Himself. Man walked in perfect relationship with God until sin entered into man's heart. God never changed His mind about why created us, so in the fullness of time Jesus came to make right what man had made wrong through sin. Jesus died on the cross for our sin and rose from the dead three days later, overcoming sin, death and hell for all who believe. In order for any of us to know the forgiveness of our sin, to know the victory over our sin, to be right once again with God, we must put our faith and trust in Jesus. It is my prayer that you all have done that, if not I would sure like to talk with you.
