FEBRUARY 18 DEVOTION BIBLE READING: 1 PETER 1:12-211
The Lord created we humans in His image and that alone makes our soul valuable to Him. There is no other part of creation that knows this, because there is no other part of creation that has an eternal soul comparable to the human soul. Not the plant kingdom...not the animal kingdom...not even the angelic kingdom. There is no other part of creation created to have the special relationship that God created us to have with Him...no other part of creation knows the possibility of being redeemed. This is why we cherish human life. This is why we stand on the biblical truth that all human life belongs to God from conception to natural death.
There is no way to put a price on the human soul, yet we live in a day and time where everything is cheapened, including humanity. People will march for the right of a woman to dispose of her unborn child...yet ignore the right of that individual soul in the womb. People will demand the right to euthanize the unproductive and burdensome older people... because they believe their value is lost when their utilitarian purpose is gone. Even Bible-believing Christians, if we are not careful, devalue the human soul. When we pick and choose with whom we will and who we will not share the Gospel. When we don't take care of the widows and the orphans, we are determining that their value is not that of our own or of others. No one can put a genuine value on a human soul except God...and He gave all that He has in His one and only Son to redeem our souls. Think of that! We as followers of Christ see human life as valuable...we see it as precious...we see it as worthy of protecting...we see it as worthy of nurturing...and we see it as important enough to share with these precious souls the eternal saving Gospel!
