AUGUST 9 READING…2 CHRONICLES 7-9 & PSALM 100
Our reading today takes us from the Lord answering the prayer of Solomon and confirming His covenant with Israel, to the death of Solomon. God answers by fire for the first sacrifice in His Temple. Then the Lord appears to Solomon and confirms His conditional covenant with Israel. It is conditional because it requires that Israel be obedient to the criteria established by God in the covenant. Chapter 7:14, is probably the most known verse in the books of the Chronicles. If you have been in our Worship Center, this verse is on the walls, encompassing the people of God as they worship. It is a call for us to seek the face of God, to pray, and to turn from wickedness…and the Lord promises His blessings when His people do these things. God then blesses Solomon with great wealth and position in the world. Sadly, Solomon allowed his foreign wives to turn his heart away from faithfully following the Lord. When Solomon’s days were over, the Lord brought him home. In Psalms we are exhorted to praise the Lord. We are to serve Him with hearts filled with joy, as we see what a great privilege it is that the Lord would use us in His great work. We are called to acknowledge Him alone as God of all things. We are what we are because of Him, and not because of ourselves. We are to be a thankful people and remember always that we have a merciful God, whose truth lasts forever…and He is a good God!
