AUGUST 7 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PHILIPPIANS 4:10-13

In this life we all have people we depend upon...they are gifts from God. They love us, care for us, they are there for us...and these people would never intentionally let us down or misuse our trust. We need to be grateful for these people in our lives. Saying all this, the reality is, because these people are people, they will let us down. Because they are finite humans, they cannot always be there for us. Because they are fallible humans, they will not always say or do the right thing. Because they are limited humans, there is only so much they are capable of doing. I do not say this to disparage them, for as I said, they love us, care for us, are there for us...and would never intentionally let us down...they are gifts from God. But they are human gifts from God, they are not, nor can they be, God for us.

Through Jesus our Heavenly Father has given us all that we need to live lives of contentment...meaning that in Him, we have it all. In Him, we want for nothing. In Him, we have all the promises of God. In Him, we know the forgiveness of sin and have eternal life. The great thing about this promise of contentment in Christ is that He is able. He will never let us down because He is infinite. He will never let us down because He is infallible. He will never let us down because He is not limited by anything...nothing is impossible with God! We have been promised contentment in Christ...and as with all other promises, He is able to do what He says!
