AUGUST 7 READING…2 CHRONICLES 1-3 & PSALM 72
Solomon begins his rule as the king of Israel. And though we know that he sought and received wisdom from the Lord, like you and me, he did not always use the gift that the Lord gave him. God not only gave Solomon wisdom, He also had others pour wealth into Solomon’s life. Solomon began his kingship by being focused on the Lord, and as a king who understood who His Sovereign was…Solomon worshiped the Lord with a sincere heart. Solomon began his work of building the Temple by selecting the best craftsmen and builders. Solomon also numbered the foreigners in the land, and he conscripted them to do much of the heavy labor in preparation for the Temple. In Psalms, Solomon expresses his need for God in order to both lead and judge Israel as their king. How wonderful it would be if our leaders today…be they political, religious, or societal would follow Solomon’s example and seek the Lord. This kind of leadership points people to the Lord as the provider of all truth and wisdom…the provider of all things. This kind of leadership glorifies the Lord, and makes the Lord’s Name great. So often, leaders are concerned about their name and their legacy…we all ought to be concerned about making the Lord’s Name known and great in every land. From our lips we all ought to praise and exalt the Name of the Lord!
