AUGUST 6 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 2:1-10

Everything we are...everything we have...everything for the born-again believer is in Christ Jesus. Our identity is in Him, our salvation is in Him, our giftedness is in Him, our life is in Him. It is an incredible thing when the believer starts understanding their position in Christ. It is no longer us...but it is Him. It's not what we can do for Him...but what He has, He is and what He will do, in us. Biblical Christianity understands that it is not us...but it is Him. That is our eternal position...for we do not wait for eternal life, but we have it in Him right now. Being that it is eternal, it can't possibly change…because it is not in us, but in Him.

Paul says, we are “…seated in the heaven in Christ Jesus." From God's view we are already there! That should also be our understanding of our position. It is then "that the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." Heaven is our home, in Christ we are not going home, we are home. And it is from that position that the Lord uses us for His glorious purpose and work. I am sure you have heard the old saying, "they are so heavenly minded, they are no earthly good." That is not the wisdom of God speaking, but the wisdom of man. For the truth is that it is only when we are heavenly minded that we are any earthly good. Why else would Paul tell us to, "set your mind on things above, not on the things of the earth?”

We are to be spiritual, not carnal. We are to be more concerned with the eternal than the temporal. We are to understand that our privileged position is in Christ Jesus and that it is only from that place that we can truly make a difference in people's lives. Alive in Christ, dead to the world, so that we can make a world of difference!
