AUGUST 27 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 55:6-9
God's ways are far above our ways, yet He tells us to come to Him as little children. The wisdom of God is too great for man to comprehend, yet He makes Himself understandable to the simple. God is not received nor understood through the intellect of man, but He reveals Himself to those who would be saved. Biblical faith is wondrous, yet at the same time received as a child and rejected by those who want complexity. It is certainly a miracle that an infinite God could be known by finite humans...this is so because He made it so, not because we figured it out. This is part of the mystery of God, revealed by His grace.
It is within we humans to want to be able to boast of any and every accomplishment. We do this in every area of life in order to claim what we feel is our rightful recognition for what we have done. When it comes to biblical salvation there is no place for us to boast. We cannot brag about our wisdom, our spirituality, our hard work. Salvation is totally an act of God toward us...if He did not do everything, there would be no salvation. If God did not reveal Himself, we could not know Him. If God did not call us to Himself, we would not come. If God did not give us the very faith to trust Him, we would not have it. Left to ourselves we would always reject God and miss Him. There are many religious eggheads out there that think they have figured God out and boast of their great understand and spiritual superiority, yet the wisdom of God reveals them to be fools. While at the same time, the wisdom of God is received by any and all who come to Him in simple faith because of His grace.
I, for one, am so grateful for this, for I am a simple man who has been touched by the grace of God and now I know who my Father is! How about you?
Please share your thoughts.
