AUGUST 27 READING…JOB 4-6 & PSALM 6
Why do bad things happen to good people? This is the way Job felt. In his eyes he was just…and apparently not only in his eyes, but God also declared him blameless and upright. Then why did bad things happen to him. In Jobs case we see that it was a direct attack by Satan…but we also see that this attack could not happen except that God allowed it to happen. One cannot dismiss the foreknowledge of God, that is He knew that Job would remain faithful, though he would have a hard time trying to figure out why these things were happening to him. I know that we all would wonder the same thing. When bad things happen in our lives, like Job, we wonder how we made God mad…or why God is punishing us. It may not be the punishment of God at all. Think about it…it could be an attack from Satan or his demons…it could be that we live in a sin fallen world, and it rains on the just and the unjust…or it could be a bad decision on our part that has brought this bad thing upon us. With Job it is clear that his attack is from Satan…Job needed to seek the Lord for wisdom as he walked through this very hard time in his life. In Psalms we see the writer recognizing how much he needed the Lord to bless him…and his recognition that he never wanted to be the recipient of the wrath or chastisement of God. It is a dangerous thing to put ourselves in opposition of God…it really is the height of insanity for a mortal human to try to resist, disobey, or fight against Almighty God.
Please share your thoughts.
