AUGUST 25 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PSALM 147
What is there that God does not know? We are limited by space and time...God knows no such limitation. One of God's attributes is that He is omniscient...meaning His knowledge is without limitation. He knows the end from the beginning...as a matter of fact, before there was a beginning and after the end, God knows all of that too! Only God knows all things about us and all the things we will do and how we will respond. Some might call this fatalism, but it is not, because within all of this we still make real decisions and choices and are still responsible for those. But God already knows what those decisions and choicest will be.
There is an incorrect an unbiblical teaching gaining a following in the church...it is called "open theism.” Simply put it is the teaching that God has no real idea what the future is, as He is waiting on us to make decisions in order to make the future what it will be. This false teaching insults who God is. It makes Him inadequate and limited on what He can know. It also makes Him dependent on us and puts us in charge rather than God. It is just another theology that diminishes God and exalts man.
So many times we can't see past the nose on our face...we only know a small portion of what the whole picture or story is. Even when we are in the midst of things we can't fully see or understand what is going on. But God sees into eternity...He sees the whole picture and story...and He never becomes confused, as He is involved in any scenario. Why is this important? Because it is in this omniscient God we can have security. He is not surprised by anything...He has all things in His hands. Because He does, He is able to promise us eternity...only He who sits outside of eternity can freely offer it to we who are bound by it.
