AUGUST 2 READING…1 CHRONICLES 23 & LUKE 21
Preparation for transition and change is never easy, but it is necessary. Rarely, if ever, do things just stop and then start back up from nothing. Life continues, and the events of life continue with or without us. I know there is a sense that we think we are all indispensable, but the truth is things go on without us. Life is a gift from God, and He gives us the privilege of being a part of what he is doing. David had become an old man, and it was time for him to step away from being the active king of Israel. David with great wisdom prepares his son, Solomon, to take the throne. David also began to prepare the people in position of prominence around Solomon for the transition. In Luke, Jesus is in the process of preparing His disciples for His crucifixion and return to heaven. In this preparation Jesus gives them information about the things they were about to face, and information about what the world was heading toward, and the end of the age. The world is headed for a dramatic change. We don’t have to be unprepared, as Jesus has told us beforehand. All the things that are coming are going to be a huge surprise to this world…but, we followers of Christ are aware of what is coming. We need to live in such a way that testifies to the truth of Christ and His Gospel.
