AUGUST 14 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:   GALATIANS 2:17-21

We have been called to live our lives by faith in the Son of God. As a matter of fact, the Bible says that, "whatever is not of faith, is sin." Faith is our response to God's initiative. God is always the first mover. In faith, we respond to what He is saying and what He is doing, yet this response is not a response of our flesh, in that He is not calling us to do anything on our own...but it is a response of surrender to Him, so that He can do through us, what we could never do on our own. In faith, we put everything in His hands, as His Spirit leads us, realizing that it is Christ in us that accomplishes the supernatural work of God.

Paul tells us that we "have been crucified with Christ." Crucifixion always resulted in death, yet Paul says, "Yet I live." We are dead to our self, dead to the world, dead to sin...but we are alive in Christ. And because we are alive in Christ, we are to live each day for the rest of our lives in faith in Christ Jesus. I like to think of it this way, as a human we are alive and walking around because of air...take the air away and we die. As a born-again Christian we are alive because of Christ...no Jesus, no life! And it is God who has given us the means to know and respond to Christ....that gift is faith. We are to live by faith, walk by faith and respond by faith...for faith is our response to God’s initiative in every area of our lives.
