APRIL 3, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

APRIL 3 READING…LUKE 24

Early Sunday morning the women who followed Jesus went to the tomb, in order to do the final preparations of Jesus’ body to rest in the tomb forever. But when they got there the stone that was used to close the tomb had been rolled away, and an angel reminded the women that Jesus had risen from the dead, just like the Lord had told them. Two of the Lord’s followers were on the road to Emmaus when suddenly Jesus appears and walks with them. At first, they did not recognize him, for it was in their mind that Jesus was dead in the tomb. It wasn’t until they sat to eat with Him, and He took the bread and broke it that they realized that it was Jesus. Later when the Apostle’s met in secret, still hiding for fear of what the authorities might do to them, Jesus appeared to them. Jesus shows them His hands and feet, and allows them to touch Him…proving He had risen in His flesh. The Lord then gives them a commission to go and evangelize, then make disciples of all new followers of Jesus. Jesus then tells them to wait on the coming of the Holy Spirit that earlier He had promised to them. It would be almost 50 before this would happen, on the day of Pentecost. Interesting that all the events of Jesus’ first coming, and also His second coming are tied to the feasts given to Moses and Israel in the Old Testament. Jesus really is the fulfillment of all Scripture.
