APRIL 27 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PHILIPPIANS 3:12-16
The Apostle Paul used many analogies when describing our Christian life. One he likes was that of the athlete, or more precisely the runner. He often spoke of our journey as a race. In Philippians 3:14 he spoke of pressing on toward the mark (the finish line) for the prize. He saw the prize as completing the work the Lord had assigned him to accomplish. He was determined to keep pressing on, not giving up until he had crossed that finish line. The prize was not for those who entered the race, but for those who had finished the race. Paul looked forward to standing before the Lord at the end of the race, for he knew he had run the race and had finished well (2 Timothy 4:7).
How's your race going? We followers of Jesus can't be sitting on the sideline watching others run their race; we too, must be running. This takes commitment to the race that is set before us by Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). We must keep our eyes, as it were, on our coach, Jesus. We must have endurance and patience, for the race is not a short sprint, but more of a marathon. We must be properly trained for this race...prepared with prayer and Bible Study. We are to run our race well and keep running it until the Judge has determined our race is over. Run well!
