APRIL 2 READING…DEUTERONOMY 7-9 & PROVERBS 2
There is a clear theme in today’s readings concerning the commands of the Lord, and our choice to obey or disobey. The Lord gives Moses commands for the Israelites as they enter Canaan and commands to observe all the Lord’s instruction all the days of their lives. They were to worship and follow the Lord, and refrain from idolatry, and going the way of the godless peoples of Canaan. We see that even while Moses is receiving God’s instruction the people have already gone off into disobedience. The consequences of the choice are very costly for Israel. They could have lived in peace and safety, but their disobedience brought them trouble. In Proverbs 2, again the teaching is to “treasure the commands within you”. True wisdom is made evident when we walk in the commands of the Lord. In His word the Lord is revealed…and in His commands we find life and knowledge of Him. Biblical wisdom allows us to take the knowledge of God we have received, and walk in it…in the light of the Lord…in righteousness…and in the way that leads to life. This was true then…it is true now.
