APRIL 19 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 6:60-69
What is your declaration of faith concerning Jesus and how important is it to you? Jesus asked His Disciples about what people were saying about Him, who they thought He was. They said that some thought He was a prophet and even John the Baptist, back from the dead. Then Jesus asked them who they say He is...Peter answered, "You are the Christ the Son of the living God.” In John's gospel once again this question is asked and again the answer remains the same. If someone were to ask you who is Jesus, how would you answer? In the Scriptures clearly some got it wrong and Peter and the other disciples got it right. There are many opinions concerning Jesus, but that is just what they are, opinions. Ultimately what matters is who Jesus is, not who people think He is. Believing in the true Jesus or believing a false Jesus does not change who He is...but it certainly impacts our eternity.
No one discovers Jesus...no one finds Jesus...no one stumbles into Jesus and then starts to believe. We know who Jesus is because of the revelation of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit takes the Word of God concerning who Jesus is and brings us to a place of faith, where we believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God. This place of faith concerning our testimony of Christ means everything to genuine believers. It was the faith of the disciples and it cost each one of them their lives. It is the faith of countless martyrs who would give up their lives rather than deny Christ. It is the faith of millions of believers who have given their lives to Christ and live in Him every day, all over the world. It is important what you believe about Jesus...it is eternally important! Our faith should never be just a statement, but it should be our life's declaration and in some cases our declaration unto death.
Please share your thoughts.
