APRIL 11 READING…JOHN 6
John records for us the miracles of feeding over 5000 people with just a couple loaves or bread and a few fish. This miracle of Jesus certainly met an immediate physical need for all the people who had gathered to hear Jesus speak…but it also teaches us an important lesson about living in the kingdom of God, the Lord can always take what little we have and use it, and when He is finished with it there is always more left over that there was at the beginning. Some might say they don’t have much to give to the Lord…its not the amount we give, its that we give what we have…and He touches it, multiplies it, and makes it more than it originally was. John also shows us that Jesus is Lord over natural law as He walks on the water. Jesus then teaches that He is the “bread of life”. He uses the imagery of consuming bread to sustain life, to speak of our need to receive Him. For there is no life apart from the Lord. He is both the bread that when received one never hungers again…and He is the water that when one drinks, they will never thirst again. Many could not comprehend what Jesus was saying so they walked away. When all these supposed followers left Jesus because His teachings were too hard, the Lord looked at His disciples and asked, “will you leave me too?” Peter gave the right answer, “Where shall we go, You are the One with the words of eternal life.” It’s just Jesus…no one, or nowhere else.
