APRIL 11, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

APRIL 11 READING…DEUTERONOMY 24-25 & PSALM 49 & PROVERBS 11

Today’s theme is that in God’s system of justice all people are to be treated equally. Unlike our own society, God is no respecter of persons…before the Lord the rich do not hold a higher position, nor are they more important than the poor. In Deuteronomy Moses gives instruction on how to live justly, and how to treat one another. The standard is the same for all of God’s people, regardless of standing or the size of their bank account. Moses gives the people God’s instruction concerning marital matters, and when there is a dispute that needs to be taken before the judges. The judges are required to treat everyone equally. In Psalm we are again reminded that we all, regardless of being rich or poor, are to give heed to the words of God, and obey them. Riches cannot redeem one from their sin. The same measure the Lord uses to judge the poor will be the measure He judges the rich. We are reminded any riches that people have will be left here on this earth, and each of us will stand empty handed before God. The writer of Proverbs calls injustice and cheating people an abomination. Again, as God treats all people the same…we are called to treat all people with integrity…it is evidence that we are genuine followers of God. We are told again that earthly riches will avail nothing when the day of judgment comes. Those who trust in their riches will fall…but the genuinely righteous, regardless of rich or poor, will flourish.
