APRIL 10 READING…DEUTERONOMY 23 & PROVERBS 10 & PHILEMON
We are to treat others as the Lord would have us treat them. The Lord gives instructions as to how the Israelites were to treat certain people when it came to them being allowed in the assembly of the Lord. This must not be seen as a call to hate them, for we are to love all people…it is not man’s requirements, but the Lord’s. Sometimes we think that our decisions usurp the Lord’s because it affects our family…the Lord’s standards are for all, yes even when the affect us and our family. In Proverbs we are told the consequences of replacing God’s truth and wisdom with our own. Paul encouraged Philemon to treat Onesimus, a runaway slave, as a brother when he returned to him. Paul was encouraging Philemon to respond to Onesimus’ return as the Lord would have him do it, and not the normal way of the world. We are called to treat all people the way that Jesus leads us…even those who hate us, misuse us, and stand against us. This is the way of the Lord!
