APRIL 1 READING…DEUTERONOMY 5-6 & PROVERBS 1
The theme for today’s reading is…the wisdom of God. Wisdom and knowledge are two different things. One can have an abundance of knowledge…ie. facts, and at the same time lack wisdom. It is one thing to say that one knows the Ten Commandments…it is another thing to say that someone understands and has the wisdom to walk in them. Wisdom is our God-given understanding and application of the knowledge He has given us. In Deuteronomy, God gives the people the Ten Commandments, and then He gives them the Shema. The Commandments are the facts of what God requires of His people…the Shema is God giving wisdom and understanding on how His people were to walk in His commandments. It must be understood that to know and apply are never enough…God’s wisdom that leads to proper understanding is always required. The Pharisees and Sadducees knew and even applied what they had learned…their problem was a lack of proper understanding, because they lacked the wisdom of God. There are many modern-day Pharisees who continue to do the same thing today. Without God’s wisdom, through the Holy Spirit, God’s Word can never be properly understood or applied. Proverbs chapter 1 tells us that the fear of God is where understanding and wisdom start. We are then encouraged to seek wisdom above all other things. God not only wants us to know…He has called us to understand and properly apply His truths.
