SEPTEMBER 2, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

SEPTEMBER 2, 2021 READINGS...1 Chronicles 5:18-8:28

You noticed that today’s reading had to do with the genealogies of the different tribes of Israel. I found it interesting that they put this here in our chronological readings. I assume they did that as a review of these tribes. It is clear even in the reading that the northern tribes are no longer in the land, but truth be told, neither is Judah in the south. This whole reading is a sad reminder that the people of Israel and Judah failed to keep their part of the covenant that the Lord establish with them first through Moses, and later again through King David. The land is now empty from the north to the south. The northern kingdom was overthrown, and the people carried away by the Assyrians. The southern kingdom was overthrown, and the people carried away by the Babylonians. We know that God is not through with Israel, and that He would bring them back into the land, but the northern kingdoms are still waiting to be back in the land and have their distinct identity recognized. They did not have to go through all this…but they chose to be disobedient to the Lord. This reminds us that there are always consequences, sometimes dire consequences, for our rebellion and disobedience to God.

Please share your thoughts from today’s reading. Ask the Lord to empower you and enable you to walk in obedience to Him in all things. If you are in disobedience to the Lord in any area of your life, repent, and return to the Lord.
