MAY 23 READING…1 SAMUEL 23-24 & PSALM 54 & 63
Because being mistreated by someone in this life is inevitable…we need to know how to respond when this mistreatment happens. David once again gains victory over the Philistines, which fuels Saul’s hatred for him even more. Saul tries again to kill David. In the midst Saul’s chasing David to kill him…David actually spares Saul’s life, when he could have killed him. David shows us how we are to respond when there are those seeking to destroy us…we are to leave them to the Lord. In Psalm, David reminds us that salvation comes from the Lord. When someone is our enemy because we are following the Lord, their judgment belongs to the Lord. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, just as Paul reminds us in Romans. Our comfort and our solace in the times of attack from others, is in the Lord. Remember, Peace is not the absence of conflict…it is the presence of the Lord in the midst of conflict. We need to trust the Lord with our enemies. Let me encourage you…there will be those who oppose you as you follow the Lord, don’t seek retribution…but trust them to the hands of the Lord. He can give you peace, and He can take care of them.
