MAY 20 READING…ACTS 11
Has the Lord ever shown you something that you have always believed to be true, that was actually not true? I think as we all grow in the faith, and spend time in the Word, the Lord shows us those things. If we are genuine followers of Jesus, we must submit to His Word, and leave that which is untrue for that which is true. Peter had to do this concerning the Gentiles being able to receive the Gospel. This was not easy for him, for it put those who he had walked with in contention with him. Peter had to defend sharing Jesus with the Gentiles, this sounds strange to us, but there was a time that the Jewish followers of Jesus believed that He was their Messiah, only. Today, sadly, there are those who teach that the Gospel is not for the Jews…ironic isn’t it. Peter shared with the other Jewish believers what God had done and told him. After Peter was corrected, he shared the truth, and all were corrected…and not only corrected, but rejoiced that the Gentiles could know salvation.
Saul and Barnabas begin their ministry in Antioch. We see again it was Barnabas who was both encouraging and reaching out…he went and got Saul and went with him to Antioch. Not everyone was sure about Saul and his conversion quite yet…but Barnabas received him wholeheartedly, and God used them in a great way in Antioch. The Lord gave a man named Agabus knowledge of a coming famine in the region of Antioch…immediately the church at Jerusalem sent relief to these believers. This is how the church should work. We are to meet needs, especially those of other believers. We are also to be meeting the needs of those who do not know yet about Jesus…the first step is to share with them the Gospel.
Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
