JUNE 8, 2021 ~ JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE CHRONOLOGICALLY

JUNE 8 READINGS...Ecclesiastes 11:7-12:14 & 1 Kings 12:1-20 & 2 Chronicles 10:1-19 &

1 Kings 12:21-24 & 2 Chronicles 11:1-4 & 1 Kings 12:25-33 & 2 Chronicles 11:5-17

Solomon comes to the end of his life and he concludes a couple of things that are beyond even his wisdom. His first statement is that everything is meaningless. Can you imagine living the life that Solomon lived...having all that he had...and coming to the conclusion that everything is meaningless? So where are we to go? Where is our hope? That is the second and final things that Solomon shares, he says..."Fear God and obey His commands, for this is everyone's duty". We must remember, and not look past the fact, that God loves us...that He knows what is right and best for us. He calls us to trust Him...in that trust we show our respect (fear) for who God is...and His rightful place to require things of us. What does He require of us, but to obey His commands. Not because He wants to make our lives miserable, but because He wants us to live a full and meaningful life. Remember He loves you...and what He has for you is the best you could ever have. Sad that Solomon only came to the realization of this at the end of his life filled with wisdom...don't wait, come to this truth today.

Solomon dies and his kingdom is divided...Israel would never be the same, up to this very day. Rehoboam is made the king of the Judah... was according to God's promise. All he needed to do was to remain true and obedient to the Lord...sadly like so many he would not. Jeroboam is made the king of the northern tribes as they would not sit any longer under the extreme taxation, and leadership of Solomon's family. Rehoboam's intent was to attack the northern tribes in their rebellion...but the prophet of God warned him not to attack his own people. So now the nation is divided so Rehoboam spent his time and money fortifying the cities of Judah. Jeroboam took little time in setting up his reign in the northern kingdoms, and sadly he does so by setting up idols, and called priest in his pagan temples from the common people. All the people from the tribe of Levi, the priestly tribe, remained faithful to Rehoboam...they left their cities and property in the north and returned to the land of Judah. This is sad that the sin of Solomon has cause a nation to be divided...and given opportunity for God's people to abandoned Him for the worship of idols. We need to learn and understand that our sin against God not only affects us, but those around us...and even future generations.

Please share your thoughts from today's readings. Keep your faith in Jesus only...obey His commands...for not only is this good for you, but your faith in Jesus affects generations to come.
