JUNE 3 READINGS...Proverbs 22:17-24:34
The essence of today’s readings is found in chapter 22, verse 19. “I am teaching you today—yes, you— so you will trust in the Lord.” These readings and devotionals are for us to learn of the good things of the Lord...and they are for ALL of us. It’s too easy to assume the words of the Lord are for others, and not for us. The Lord is speaking into our lives...He has great things to tell us...and we need to listen. Take time to thank the Lord that He will speak to you today...and take time listen and trust Him.
Solomon speaks much in today’s readings about some “don’ts”...we don’t like “don’ts”...but we need them, we all need boundaries. Listen to the wisdom of the Lord...and follow His instruction. Don’t rob the poor, just because you can. Don’t befriend angry people...and don’t envy sinners. Don’t agree to guarantee another person’s debt...it then becomes your debt, without any benefit. Don’t cheat your neighbor...and don’t testify against your neighbor falsely. Don’t exhaust yourself to become rich...and don’t eat with people who are stingy. Don’t waste your breath on fools...and don’t envy evil people. Don’t rejoice when your enemy falls...and don’t fret of evildoers. Don’t fail to discipline your children...they won’t die if you spank them, though they might if your refuse to discipline them. Don’t gaze at wine...it may go down smooth, but it bites like a venomous snake. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know “...we know, and we are call to speak for the truth. These are great “don’ts” that will help us to have a life that is filled and blessed of the Lord. Sometimes “don’ts” are good for us!
Please share your thoughts from today’s readings. Read and apply God’s truth...see how your life will be blessed!
