JULY 5 READINGS...Psalm 47-49 & 84-85 & 87
I really loved our readings in the Psalm today, for the Psalmist told us two wonderful truths over and over again. First, he told us how wonderfully magnificent our God is…second, he told us what that means to us. Look at the descriptive words used by the inspired Psalmist uses in speaking of our God. The Lord is High and awesome…the great King of all the earth, who reigns over all the nations. How great is our God…the defender of Jerusalem. He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies…whose Name deserves our worship. He is our God forever and ever, and He will guide us until we die. God is our Redeemer…He is our King and our God. The Lord is our sun and our shield…the God of our salvation. What a great and magnificent God we have…what words can contain His true splendor?
The Psalmist tells us because God is all these things and more, we as his children are blessed beyond measure. What do these blessings look like to us according to the inspired words of the Psalmist? We have His powerful protection…what earthly power can touch us? His majesty makes the nations faint in His presence. The Lord is our victory…and because He is, failure is not a possibility. I have no need to fear anyone or anything, for the Lord is my Redeemer, and He will snatch me from the power of the grave. Though the world trusts in their riches and power…the Lord is our provision, and when all the things fade away the Eternal God will still be there for us. The Lord gives us joy, and He will lift our spirits when we walk through the valley of weeping. His presence changes everything for us…for one day in His courts is better than a thousand anywhere else. He has promised to withhold no good thing from those who do good and trust in Him. You see, we are an extremely blessed people…because we have a magnificently gracious God. Let us praise the Name of the Lord!
Please share your thoughts from today’s reading. Take time to meditate on who God is…then take some time to thank Him for all the blessings He has poured into your life.
