FEBRUARY 6 READING…EXODUS 13-15 & PSALM 114
Today’s theme seems to be a theme that has been true since the dawn of human history, and remains true today. Today’s theme is…God is faithful, and the people of God are fickle. God had brought the people of Israel out of the captivity of Egypt…the Egyptians were so ready to get rid of the Israelites after the plagues, that they even gave them their gold, silver, and provisions. God instructed Moses to let the people know that because so Passover, the first born of all things, including humans, belonged to the Lord. God would lead the people out of Egypt to the Promised Land the way God had determined. Pharaoh changes his mind and chases after Israel. The Israelites are backed up against the Red Sea…there they begin to rebel against God and Moses (a pattern of rebellion we will see over and over again). God opens the sea so that Israel was able to walk across on dry land…how incredible is that? When Pharaoh’s army attempted to chase the Israelites through the sea, the Lord closed the water on them. On the other side Israel would begin to praise God for His goodness…a praise, the unfortunately, would not last long. As they traveled three days beyond the sea they began to be thirsty and once again begin to rebel. God had Moses make bitter water sweet, so the people could drink. Once again God demonstrates His faithfulness to His people, but soon His people would forget the faithfulness of God, and in their fickle ways, rebel against God.
We need to have a continual song of praise in our hearts for the faithfulness of God toward us. The Psalmist records the mighty works of God in bringing Israel through the Red Sea to safety. He calls the people of God to praise God…for God is faithful. I want to remind myself, and each of you, we have a faithful God…He is always faithful…for His faithfulness is who He is. We need to be careful not to be like Israel, and not have rebellious attitudes based on the philosophy of…” God what have You done for me lately?” We have a great and faithful God…let’s spend our days praising Him!
Please share your thoughts.
